I’m not sure if they are advertising Red Bull or F1, but the team are promoting themselves with a 6am pit stop outside the Houses of Parliament this morning. I’m guessing the campers in the Square were given a very rude and loud awakening.

It’s an interesting stunt by the team, a quick turnaround in the video and then on the seeding out through The Viral Factory. As well as this promotion, the redbullf1spy was busy tweeting early (far earlier than he usually is!) as well as posting images to Flickr

First of all, I have to say that the site of Best Buy ads in UK papers is slightly disconcerting; having lived in the States and used Best Buy a lot – all my US electronics were bought there – suddenly seeing them logo here makes me want to go back.

To promote themselves in the new market and as a tie-in with the World Cup, Best Buy are running a pretty cool contest to win everything in their ‘man-cave’. Although focused on the male football fan, the prizes on offer would be great for anyone, including 2 Samsung TVs, a HTC Desire phone, a netbook and plenty of beer and pizza. All you have to do to enter is add a comment to the video, saying what else you think needs to go into the room. Simple contest, great, great prize.

A year ago, Olympus and their agency DSG Dialog Solutions GmbH got into trouble for ‘borrowing’ the idea of a video they produced to celebrate 50 years of the PEN camera. It’s a gorgeous stop-motion film, showing a man’s journey through life using still photos.

They were called out for being heavily influenced by Taijin Takeuchi and his video Wolf and Pig. The connection was eventually acknowledged and it seems to have had a happy ending as Taijin has directed a new video for the agency and Olympus, this time taking the idea BIG and to the streets.

As a story, I think the first video has the edge, but I am quite taken with the idea that all the billboard ad models have secret lives, it makes me smile.

I’ve seen this a few times in my feed and finally got to watch it. I love it, brilliantly done and bang on message. Keep Walking is one of those great brand taglines that is global is usage and here’s a perfect example of it’s use. I’d love to know how many rehearsals there were to get every single cue correct. (It’s just a pity Diageo want to close the Kilmarnock plant now and lose the relationship)

The only brand video on the list isn’t exactly a video for a brand, but is definitely about a brand. The band Sons of Maxwell travelled by United Airlines last year, who proceeded to load their guitars without due care and attention. So they broke them. Complaining didn’t get them anywhere, so they turned to what they know best, writing a song – United Breaks Guitars – producing a video and getting massive hits on YouTube with all the accompanying press. United would have been better just apologising and preforming good customer service in the first place. They have only just now offered compensation. The full story on Dave Carroll’s site.

Police, the fashion house rather than the force or the band, are looking for “a new face for the next international advertising campaign 2010!” You can submit your entry to the Be Younique contest up until Aug 30th and every 2 weeks, a new set of finalists will be chosen, with the winner being chosen from the 60 finalists in early September. The first stages use user voting to determine the winners, the winner is chosen by a panel.

The Viral Factory <del datetime="2009-07-17T08:42:27+00:00">have produced a video</del> are helping to promote this contest,; it’s definitely a unique video, mildly amusing I’m guessing mainly men were involved in the creative process, as it definitely seems to be focused on a particular male challenge. The video was produced by 1861United,Italy.

It’s shown on the front of the site as well. However, I really wish they wouldn’t do this – calling something viral when it’s not really racked up the views (around 4k at the moment) is a little flase advertising.

First up is the Evian Babies, a well deserved hit but full of very scary dancing babies. I’m trying to work out how it was done. (It’s far more entertaining than the myriad of Michael Jackson videos that are up there.

Then we have a film of a car driving around London. Not any old car, but a Citroen GT, which was designed for a video game and drew stares as it (slowly) meandered the streets.

It must be a car week. This is fun, from Seat

Argghhh. There’s Britain’s Got Talent videos everywhere. The final on Saturday was watched by over 18 million people (that’s about 27% of the population, so equivalent to an US audience of about 81million) and it seems they all uploaded videos to YouTube and then watched them. The other key videos seem to be Jonas Brothers and Twilight previews and the odd bit of Champion’s League with Barcelona v Man U, so little else has a chance to get on the list this week.

But the e*trade babies have crept into there, as a trailer for an ABC Money special that was broadcast last Friday. They were big around Superbowl and have made a comeback here.
